An expression of intimacy, heritage and quiet luxury
Rich in detail, layered with comfort, and defined by impeccable personal service.
In the early twentieth century, the most affluent families rarely used the word “mansion”, preferring the more modest “Great House”. These homes were defined by comfort, detail and a distinct sense of personal service. GA Design drew on this idea to reimagine Harrods Beauty Hall as a modern
interpretation of the Great House, creating a space that feels calm, elegant and welcoming within the rhythm of Knightsbridge. The result is a retreat that balances domestic warmth with Harrods’ legacy of luxury. The design offers a gentler, more intimate retail experience where every detail has meaning and every space is shaped to feel considered.

Approach
The layout was imagined as a series of rooms within a grand residence. GA Design retained the openness of the original retail floor yet introduced subtle partitions using satin nickel, cut glass and marble. These architectural cues create a sense of gentle division, giving each zone its own atmosphere while maintaining a cohesive flow.

Art Deco influences, woven into Harrods’ identity, guided the material language. Sunburst marble veining, archive lighting and geometric motifs honour the building’s 1920s heritage. Rather than relying on nostalgia, the design uses these references sparingly, allowing the space to feel both rooted and modern.

The retail journey is shaped as a curated duality. One side presents a lively make-up hall, while the other offers quieter lifestyle zones with bookcase inspired shelving and softly lit frosted “books” that bring a sense of domestic charm.

A sculptural staircase in Golden Spider marble leads guests to the private Beauty Suites. Bronze fluted detailing, an acanthus floor motif and a suspended digital chandelier introduce drama before giving way to serene treatment rooms in shades of blush, marble and ribbed timber.
