Indira Arnautovic, Senior FF&E Designer, returns to University of Saravejo
Indira Arnautovic, Senior FF&E Designers at GA, returned to the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Architecture from which she graduated, as a guest lecturer.
At the beginning of May, Indira returned to the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Architecture, from which she graduated, as a guest lecturer. Speaking in front of Year 3, 4, and 5 students, professors, the Dean, and several practicing architects, Indira discussed innovation and recent developments in hotel design, particularly the introduction of boutique design concepts into mainstream hospitality. She explored how this shift has led to an explosion of new hotel brands - both independent and part of larger international chains - all striving to create more unique, more local, and experience-driven design identities.
The lecture was followed by a broader overview of hotel design in general and some of its greatest challenges, particularly in relation to urban hotels and historic renovations.
Indira also spoke about the natural cycle of product development: from the initial concept and design development, through collaboration with manufacturers, to the final installation process.
An engaging and lively Q&A session followed, with questions ranging from what it is like to work as an interior designer in London, and how designers can protect their work contractually, to the increasingly important topic of copyright.
Indira was deeply moved by the experience and grateful for the opportunity to share her knowledge with the next generation of designers. Reflecting on her own journey, she said:
My professional journey began in this very building some time ago, just as yours is beginning now. The advice given to me by my professors shaped me profoundly as a designer. The most valuable lesson was the introduction to the concept of Genius Loci - the Spirit of the Place - that unique quality belonging to one place, and one place only, for us to discover, be inspired by, and build upon. Equally important was learning that to grow as a designer means remaining forever curious and keeping your eyes wide open, because inspiration often comes from the most unexpected places. ”
